Great workout this morning with my WarriorFit class and then a little bit of rehab. Single leg Rdl's, crab walks, one legged pistol squats and clams..
Simple. A little (muscle) Painful. Effective.
As runners we sometimes forget about the importance of the hip abductors (gluteus medius, gluteus minimus) and the hip external rotators. These muscles act as important stabilizers vital to supporting our forward movement. Ever get iliotibial (IT) band or knee problems?, patella tendonitis, piriformis issues? Evidence suggests that many of these problems can be overcome by addressing a key weakness that numerous runners exhibit: weak hips.
Other great exercises are leg abductors, fire hydrant, mule kicks, hip hikes.
